Topper’s Mountain Wines; Wines That Weather It All

Topper’s Mountain sits high on the New England Tablelands of New South Wales, where elevation, volcanic soils and cool mountain air create the perfect conditions for unique and expressive wines. The vineyard was established between 1998 and 2002 by Mark and Stephanie Kirkby, who planted both classic and rare varieties to suit the land’s character from Tempranillo and Nebbiolo to Gewürztraminer and Petit Manseng.

What began as a small family operation has grown into one of Australia’s most distinctive cool-climate vineyards. Through experimentation and collaboration with acclaimed winemakers like Mike Hayes, Topper’s Mountain has built a reputation for producing bold, terroir-driven wines with personality and depth.

Over the years, the vineyard has faced more than its fair share of challenges from wildfires and drought to floods and pandemic impacts. But the team’s determination and passion have never wavered.

Today, Topper’s Mountain is part of a new chapter in New England’s proud winemaking history, carrying forward a legacy that began in the 1800s. With each bottle, they continue to showcase the resilience, richness and potential of this remarkable high country region.
