Elephant Mountain Wines… poetry in a bottle

Elephant Mountain Wines derives its name from its location: the six hectare vineyard lies at the base of the imposing Elephant Mountain, between Mudgee and Rylstone in NSW.

This location provides a unique terroir and cool climate. The cold nights and warm sunny days lend themselves to a very long ripening period, which enhances the flavour of the wine.

The vineyard produces Shiraz, Shiraz Rosé and Pinot Gris. The Shiraz vines were planted in 1999 and 2005. The premium grade grapes were originally sold to Orlando Wyndam Estate and Robert Oatley Wines, however since 2009, the grapes have been harvested make wine under the Elephant Mountain label.

The vines are pruned each year to achieve low yielding vines. This optimises the flavours in the grapes during ripening before harvest. Minimal sprays are used in the vineyard and wherever possible none at all. The grapes are handpicked at their optimal ripeness to achieve a balanced and digestible wine requiring minimal additives in the wine making process. Elephant Mountain Wine is especially sought after by those who are sensitive to chemicals and preservatives.
